An exciting Ultimate Fighting Championship match is scheduled for August 1. The fight, featuring the main event Jon “Bones” Jones against Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko, will take place at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California. It will be broadcast as a Spike TV event. Jones, 6’4” and 205 pounds, enters the fight with a 10-1-0 record. Matyushenko, 6’0” and 205 pounds, is much more experienced with a 24-4-0 record.
Although Jones does not have as much experience as Matyushenko, he is an accomplished UFC fighter. He is rising in popularity among fight fans due to his unique style. Jones has had stunning defeats over Stephan Bonnar and Brandon Vera. However, he will face a huge challenge in Matyushenko. Matyushenko is the former world title challenger. He has an overpowering style that he has been able to perfect in his 28 UFC fights. The winner of this matchup will increase their bid for a chance of fighting for the world light heavyweight title.
Jon “Bones” Jones against Vladimir “The Janitor” Matyushenko
Jones has won eight of his matches due to stoppage. His fighting style leans heavily toward wrestling. His lone defeat comes from a disqualification in a match he was winning. Jones is considered the favorite in this matchup. He is younger and has a much longer reach. In addition, Jones is considered the better striker. Matyushenko will have to rely on his experience in this fight. He is considered to be a better wrestler than Jones. Matyushenko will have to spend a lot of time inside and put Jones on his back as much as possible. It will come down to a contest of Matyushenko’s experience and power against Jones’s technical skill and speed. This fight was originally scheduled to take place in Salt Lake City, Utah at the EnergySolutions Arena.
“Big” John McCarthy Makes a Comeback
The event will be the return of referee “Big” John McCarthy. McCarthy has not refereed a UFC event in over three years. Not every fight in this event will be televised on Spike TV.
The Fight Card
The Fight Card Other fights on the card include the 8-1-0 Mark “The Filipino Wrecking Machine” Munoz against the 25-5-0 Yushin “Thunder” Okami. The other middleweight fight on the card is Rob “The Rosedale Reaper” Kimmons at 185 pounds against Steve “The Hooligan” Steinbeiss, also at 185 pounds. In the light heavyweight division, Brian “All American” Stann will go against Mike “The Master of Disaster” Massenzio. 6’2” James “The Sandman” Irvin is fighting 6’0” Igor Pokrajac in another light heavyweight fight. The two welterweight fights on the card see John “Doomsday” Howard face off against Jake Ellenberger and DaMarques “Darkness” Johnson battle Matthew Riddle. Riddle is an up and coming fighter who is only participating in his sixth fight. The lightweight card features Tyson Griffin against Takanori “The Fireball Kid” Gomi. The 5’9” Paul “Tellys” Kelly will fight the 5’9” Jacob “Christmas” Volkmann. This is considered to be one of the most evenly contested matches on the fight card. Both fighters have identical heights and weights. They have similar experience levels. Rounding out the event is Darren “The Damage” Elkins facing off against Charles Oliveira.
