UFC 117 The Oracle Arena in Oakland, California is the site for the return of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The fight, taking place August 7th, features the current middleweight title holder Anderson “The Spider” Silva against the top challenger, Chael Sonnen. Silva has been absolutely dominating almost every fighter in the middleweight division. However, Sonnen presents a unique challenge. He has a different style that could give Silva problems. Sonnen has a legitimate chance to unseat the champion.
Anderson Silva
Silva, at 6’2” and 185 pounds, comes into the fight with an amazing 26-4-0 record. The Brazilian fighter is UFC’s longest reigning champion. He tied the record for the longest winning streak at 12 victories. Silva holds a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu and trains year-round in Brazil. He burst onto the UFC scene in 2006 with a startling and decisive victory over the undefeated Chris Leben.
Chael Sonnen
Sonnen, listed at 6’1” and 185 pounds, is just as experienced as Silva. He holds a 26-10-1 record. He was an All-American wrestler at the University of Oregon and was a US Olympic alternate. In between all of his training, Sonnen works as a real estate agent. He briefly ran for State Representative in Oregon before dropping out of the race. Sonnen is filled with confidence and feels he has the experience and fighting style necessary to defeat Silva.
The winner of UFC 117 will face off against Vitor Belfort in a match scheduled for November. Silva comes into the fight on shaky ground with UFC President Dana White. Silva used questionable tactics in his last UFC fight. White has threatened to cut Silva if he behaves the same way in UFC 117.
UFC 117 is available on pay-per-view if you are unable to make it to the Oracle Arena to see the action live. Not all of the fights on the fight card will be televised.
UFC 117 Fight Card

Other fights on the card include Dustin Hazelett against Rick “The Horror” Story and undefeated Johny Hendricks against Charlie “The Spaniard” Brenneman. 8-2-2 Ben “Killa B” Saunders and the experienced 64-13-2 Dennis “Superman” Hallman round out the fight card.
UFC Information
UFC is the top mixed martial arts promotion company in the United States. They host several events featuring the top fighters from around the world. UFC is divided into nine weight divisions: Flyweight, bantamweight, featherweight, lightweight, welterweight, middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Each round lasts five minutes and the number of rounds varies by type of fight.
Overall this should be a great fight card and the main event has a chance to become an upset. If Sonnen can get this fight to the ground, he has a chance. If not, then we will have to endure more show boating and maybe even some more running from the Chamo Silva. One thing is for sure, if Silva does more of his antics, this may be his last UFC fight!
